Tree Planting in Warwickshire
Trees play a role in removing, or “sequestering”, some of the emissions we produce, because they absorb CO2 through photosynthesis.
Tree planting is a core part of the Warwickshire strategy to meet our net zero goals, with WCC planning to plant a tree for every Warwickshire resident (c. 600,000) over the next few years.
Warwickshire Tree Nursery
As part of this plan, WCC now has our own tree nursery, where we have already planted our first 20,000 acorns. Our nursery was developed in response to concerns about rising costs of whips and saplings in a growing market, as well as a desire to reduce the carbon footprint of transport from those previously imported from Europe. If all our newly planted acorns reach maturity as Oak trees, they will have the capacity to capture over 20,000 tonnes of CO2 over their lifetimes.
